Jon's Story

Jon Rhodie had a faltering start in life. Born in 1944 in the then British Colony of Southern Rhodesia, his mother was killed in a car crash when he was 16. He served for 6 months as a mercenary with the legendary Wild Geese in the Congo, before being involved in the Rhodesian Bush War for five years. He landed up as a Convoy Commander with a small rank of Stick Leader, running convoys through the ‘hot’ areas, from Fort Victoria to Beit bridge, and up towards Umtali. A terrible car crash in 1995 meant doctors told him he’d never walk again. He did… a year later but the strain proved too much for Rhodie’s wife, the love of his life, who died shortly after.

In 2001 Jon moved to the UK but went back to South Africa to become a lay preacher in the Methodist church

Jon’s second marriage was rocky from the start. He lost his pension and his house, squatting for 2 years without electricity and very little water. He had to rely on charity and soup kitchens to survive.

On a last chance lift to a friend’s house for help, Jon gave himself 3 goals: He would have his own house to live in, he will have a good vehicle to drive, and he would have a good salary to live on.

He was starting over at age 69, with very little money, no hope of getting a job, and no prospects. Seemingly a hopeless situation. But within a year he would have all three.

All thanks to the Law of Attraction.

About
Jon's Philosophy

Jon's attitude is you only have 3 choices in life. ‘Improvise, adapt, or overcome!’ It is not what life throws at you that counts, it is how you react to it!

Today Jon is an author, thanks to computers that handle the spelling and helps him overcome his dyslexia. He has written several articles for magazines, and this is his first book 'Starting Over @69'.

Jon is a self-taught artist and paints wildlife, seascapes, and landscapes. He is also a self-taught mechanic, and he learned to play the guitar. He was a lay preacher in his church for 7 years before he retired. This required 2 years of theological studies, and he passed the exams with flying colours. A far cry from his school years!

Jon’s attitude to life is that a person can overcome any obstacle in life, any difficulty or disability, if they put their mind to it and learn how to use the natural and spiritual laws of life that are available to them! You can get out of The Valley of the Shadow!
